Updates

I haven't posted for awhile - seems I've got a bit of Spring Fever lately! But life has been busy. Last weekend I was invited to the opening of a new library in Camarillo. I was among friends and fellow writers, including Alexis O'Neill, Greg Trine, Kristine George, June Sobel, Jody Fickes Shapiro, and Carol Heyer. Every community deserves like the new Camarillo library! The children's section is delightful. A child could spend the whole day finding the perfect book! There is a separate YA section that houses the largest collection I have seen in a community library. In today's fast paced computer iPod world, it's good to know that communities still value books!

I'm also looking forward to a couple of other community events. On April 18th I will be participating in the MELODY OF WORDS Literacy Festival at El Camino High School in Woodland Hills, California. The event features authors and other activities. They expect a crowd of up to 2,500 people - a good time should be had by all! I will be doing two presentations and a book signing.

On May 6th, I will be one of the authors visiting with kids at the Summer Reading Kick-off at Barnes and Noble in Thousand Oaks, California. As part of the program, I have been asked to share my list of favorite summer reading books.

Here is my list:

Ira Sleeps Over by Bernard Waber
Timothy Goes to School by Rosemary Wells
Ruby the Copycat by Peggy Rathmann
All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor
Lavender by Karen Hesse
Molly's Pilgrim by Barbara Cohen
Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech
Confessions of a Closet Catholic by Sarah Darer Littman

Some of my picks are classic favorites, others not as well known. Anyone out there agree with my choices? Disagree? I'd love to know!

Happy Reading! Happy Writing!

Hey Barb,

Walk Two Moons and Speak are among my very favorites. But you took me back decades with All-of-a-Kind Family. I read the Taylor books over and over and over again. Sweet memories!

Hey Barb,

I'm behind the times. I just posted my list on my blog today. Looking forward to seeing you at the event on Sunday.

Hi Barbara! Long time, no post! Maybe this will help you to start blogging again. I'm tagging you in a new kind of blog game. Similar to "8 Things Meme" spreading around the blogosphere but with humor added. Go to my blog to check it out!
