Community
Since the release of Like a Maccabee, I have met so many wonderful folks of all ages. Whether it is fundraisers, book signings, or school visits, I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people. Although these events are part of the book promotion process, the unexpected bonus is the sense of connection I have felt with my community. I have met grandparents looking for a book for their grandchildren, librarians who are tirelessly enthusiastic about children's books, would-be writer's asking for advice, and best of all - kid's who love books! There is no greater boost of spirit than visiting a school and reaching out to kids who are eager to learn, open to new ideas and experiences, and willing to share their thoughts about reading and writing. I may never be rich or famous, but I'm pretty sure I've got the best job in the world!
